A trucker has paid the price for his aggressive response to petrol station staff asking him to adhere to the rules on mask wearing in Germany. The police were called due to the incident, and lorry driver was later found to be under the influence of drugs.

Back in January, many German states decided to toughen the rules on mask-wearing – making FFP2 masks mandatory in shops and many other indoor spaces. This includes petrol stations.

According to an official police report, the lorry driver, who had popped into a Dannstadt petrol station store during his rest period,  only wore a cloth mask and was thus ordered to leave the premises by staff. The trucker didn’t take kindly to the news and became aggressive.

The petrol station staff then called the police as a result of the driver’s aggression. The police consequently found that the driver was guilty of breaking covid safety rules, but also made another discovery on further inspection.

Police searched the lorry driver’s truck with a sniffer dog, and residues of marijuana were found. A blood sample was then taken from the truck driver by a doctor to determine the exact drug concentration in the body. The results showed that the trucker had been driving under the influence of drugs.

As a result, the trucker was prohibited from continuing his journey and handed a fine in the “high three-digit range”.
