A tachograph manipulation discovered by DVSA examiners in Kent yesterday has been described as “unacceptable” by RHA policy director Duncan Buchanan.
Writing on Twitter, the DVSA said the manipulation, which used a magnet on the sender, could have rendered the truck’s tachograph, speedometer, anti lock brakes and speed limiter inoperative.
The DVSA added it was fortunate the issue was dealt with before the driver killed someone.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, RHA Policy Director Duncan Buchanan described the situation as “unacceptable”. He called on the truck and driver to be removed from country after the compulsory 45 hour rest.
Buchanan also urged the DVSA to inform enforcement authorities throughout Europe that the lorry has been using magnets, as this would lead to the truck being red flagged & targeted everywhere it goes.
