XPO France orders 165 electric Renault trucks for local deliveries

XPO France has ordered 165 Renault electric trucks. The order represents the largest investment in this type of vehicle in France, the company announced on Thursday. The new electric trucks will replace XPO's diesel-powered fleet for short-distance deliveries.

By 2030, XPO plans to make around 25% of its deliveries in France with electric vehicles, reducing its CO2 emissions by more than 26,000 tonnes. With its partner Renault Trucks, XPO is transforming its fleet to comply with upcoming regulations on urban deliveries, while helping its customers meet their own decarbonisation targets.

Overall, XPO aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in France by 25% by 2025 compared to 2019.

The electric trucks produce no direct CO2 emissions and significantly reduce noise and air pollution, making them particularly suitable for deliveries in congested urban areas, XPO says.

They also emit fewer particulates and less vibration, which reduces driver fatigue. Each truck is equipped with a 360° camera that reduces blind spots for optimum safety.

“This is our second significant order for electric trucks, following the order we announced in January 2023, and demonstrates XPO’s commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. Our multi-energy transition strategy is based on a range of solutions and initiatives that complement each other, particularly when it comes to fuels. Since our first electric test in 2021, we have been impressed by this technology, which has also proved popular with drivers. We are also renewing our gas-powered vehicles and increasing the use of biofuels,” said Bruno Kloeckner, Managing Director of XPO Logistics’ French subsidiary.
