Difficulties on the Italian-French border. Major tunnel closed overnight

The Fréjus tunnel will be closed to traffic on three nights this month for maintenance work, and a shuttle service will be introduced on a dozen other nights.

According to the SFTRF, which manages the Fréjus tunnel, the tunnel will be closed in both directions on the following nights:

  • from Tuesday 5 March to Wednesday 6 March from 22.00 to 6.00,
  • from Wednesday 6 March to Thursday 7 March, from 22.00 to 6.00,
  • from Tuesday 12 March to Wednesday 13 March from 22.00 to 6.00.

In addition, for most of the month (7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28 and 29 March) there will be alternating night traffic along the entire length of the tunnel to allow safety improvement works to be carried out according to the following timetable.

From 10.30pm on the day indicated above until 4.30am the following day.
