The Dublin Port Tunnel will close completely from 21:30 on Thursday until 04:30 on Friday morning, while a section of the A14 serving Felixstowe will be shut westbound from 22:00 until 06:00.
HGVs diverted during Dublin Port Tunnel closure
The Dublin Port Tunnel will be closed overnight for the second consecutive night, following another full closure on Wednesday.
During Thursday night’s closure, all HGV and bus traffic must divert via Alfie Byrne Road, according to Dublin Tunnel operators. The closure runs from 21:30 on 10 September until 04:30 the following morning.
The tunnel is a particularly important route for freight travelling between Dublin Port and the M50 motorway network, allowing HGVs to bypass central Dublin.
Operators planning overnight port collections or deliveries should therefore allow additional time for the diversion and possible congestion on surrounding roads.
A14 closure affects traffic leaving Felixstowe
In England, National Highways will close the A14 westbound between junction 60 at Trimley St Mary and junction 59 at Trimley overnight on Thursday.
The section will be fully closed between 22:00 and 06:00 as part of an ongoing programme to renew road markings and road studs between Ipswich and Felixstowe.
The works are particularly relevant to freight operators because the A14 is the principal strategic road connection serving the Port of Felixstowe. National Highways describes the route as an important link between the Midlands and eastern England and says maintaining it is important for freight movements and supply chains.
A signed diversion will take traffic away from the closed section via local roads before vehicles can rejoin the A14 further west.
National Highways also cautions that planned closures can change at short notice and advises drivers to check live road information before travelling.
Both restrictions fall predominantly during overnight freight operating hours, meaning operators using either Dublin Port or Felixstowe may need to adjust collection and delivery schedules on Thursday night.
