National Highways has begun safety improvement works at M20 junction 12 at Cheriton, close to the Channel Tunnel terminal. The first phase affects the coastbound exit slip, which will be closed every night from 8pm to 6am between 1 and 15 September.
Some daytime traffic management will also remain in place while safety barrier works are carried out.
During the coastbound closure, drivers who need junction 12 should continue to the next junction, leave the motorway and return coastbound to reach the junction.
Restrictions switch direction from 15 September
The disruption will not end in the middle of the month. From 15 to 30 September, the Londonbound exit slip at junction 12 will instead close overnight between 8pm and 6am. Drivers will again be directed to continue to the next junction before turning around and returning to junction 12.
National Highways also says the junction 12 roundabout will have narrow lanes and outer-ring traffic management throughout September.
Junction 12 connects the M20 with the A20 and B2064 at Cheriton and is close to the Channel Tunnel. National Highways advises drivers that planned closures can change at short notice and recommends checking its daily closures information before travelling.
