The festive atmosphere is all around us. No wonder that drivers setting off on long distances want to feel the magic of Christmas at least a little. That’s why they install various types of glowing decorations in cabins. However, additional lighting from the front and rear of the truck is not welcomed everywhere.

For example, in Germany, decorating a truck with glowing accessories is prohibited. This is governed by paragraph 49a of the Road Traffic Regulation (StVZO). The ban also applies to flashing and rotating LED lights and various types of luminescent logos.

Everything that shines inside and outside the vehicle must comply with the regulations. First of all, you cannot hinder the movement of other road users,” explain the experts from the Technical Supervision Association TÜV SÜD in an interview with the pressebox.de portal.

Are Christmas lights legal in the UK?

Safety of the driver and other road users is the most important principle. Coloured lights might be a distraction to others. For example, putting white lights in the rear of the truck could cause confusion, as the usual vehicle lights are red. Similarly, putting red lights to the front of the truck could be dangerous.

Therefore, according to Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations, it is illegal to shine oddly-coloured lights from the front and rear of your truck, apart from the ones it came with.
