Germany’s Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) is recruiting extra staff as part of plans to carry out more road inspection checks.
The recruitment drive is the cornerstone of a major project that kicked off at the end of 2019, which comprised of 51 individual tenders and around 250 selection interviews throughout the country.
Despite pandemic-related restrictions, the procedures continued unabated in 2020, taking careful safety and hygiene concepts into account. The BAG have now said the first stage of this project is about to be successfully completed.
Since the beginning of the year, a further 42 new employees have also joined the ranks of the BAG. In addition, the inspectors who joined the BAG in 2020 and 2021 are currently undergoing extensive specialist training.
Moreover, yet more employees are expected to join the BAG in July and October of this year.
The new hires are being spread across eight branch office areas in Germany, which the BAG says is making a substantial improvement to its levels of inspection coverage.
