Bans for trucks in Germany in 2019

This year the usual restrictions on heavy goods vehicles in Germany will apply on Sundays and public holidays. Trucks are also prohibited on certain road sections throughout the country. However, the ban does not apply to all kinds of transport.

In Germany, traffic prohibitions include heavy goods vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) above 7.5 tonnes and lorries with trailers regardless of their weight. The ban is valid on the whole road network on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 pm. It should be remembered, however, that different holidays are celebrated depending on the region and additional traffic bans may apply.

Holidays in Germany in 2019. On those dates bans for trucks apply in the entire country:

January 1 – New Year,

April 19 – Good Friday,

April 22 – Easter,

May 1 – Labor Day,

May 30 – Ascension,

June 10 – Pentecostal Monday,

June 20 – God’s Body (only in the following states: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hessen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saar),

October 3 – German Reunification Day,

October 31 – Reformation Day (only in the following Länder: Brandenburg, Mecklenburg – Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony – Anhalt and Thuringia),

November 1 – All Saints’ Day (only in the Länder: Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saar),

December 25 – Christmas,

December 26 – Christmas.

Additional restrictions during the holiday season

From 1 July to 31 August, truck traffic is additionally prohibited on Saturdays between 7 am and 8 pm on certain motorways and federal roads. The ban on heavy goods vehicles on Sundays and public holidays remains unchanged throughout this period.

An additional ban applies to the following sections of roads and highways:

– A1 from Köln-West via the Leverkusen-West interchange, Wuppertal, through the intersection of Kamen and Münster to the Lohne/Dinklage intersection,

– A2 from the Oberhausen intersection to the Bad Oeynhausen intersection,

– A3 from the Oberhausen intersection to the Cologne-Ost junction, from the Mönchhof junction through the Frankfurt intersection to the Nürnberg intersection,

– A5 from the Darmstadt junction to the Karlsruhe-Sud junction and from the Offenburg junction to the Neuenburg junction

– A6 from the Schwetzingen-Hockenheim junction to the Nürnberg-Süd intersection,

– A7 from the Schleswig/Jagel junction to the Hamburg-Schnelsen-Nord intersection, from the Soltau-Sud junction to the Göttingen-Nord junction; from the intersection of Schweinfurt/Werneck, the Biebelried intersection, the Ulm/Elchingen intersection and the Allgäu junction to the state border in Füssen,

– A8 from the Karlsruhe junction to the Munich-Obermenzing junction and from the München-Ramersdorf junction to the Bad Reichenhall junction,

– A9/E51 Berlin bypass (Leipzig/Potsdam intersection) to the München-Schwabing intersection,

– A10 Berlin bypass, except for the section with the Berlin-Spandau intersection through the Havelland junction to the Oranienburg junction and the section between the Spreeau junction and the Werder junction

– A45 from the Dortmund-Süd junction through the Westhof and Gambach intersections to the Seligenstadt intersection,

– A61 from the intersection of Meckenheim via the intersection of Koblenz to the Hockenheim intersection,

– A81 from the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen intersection to the Gärtringen junction,

– A92 from the München-Feldmoching junction to the Oberschleissheim junction and from the Neufahrn junction to the Erding junction,

– A93 from the intersection of Inntal to the Reischenhart junction,

– A99 from München-Süd-West via the intersections of München-West, München-Allach, München-Feldmoching, München-Nord, München-Ost, München-Süd and München/Eschenried,

– A215 from the Bordesholm junction to the Blumenthal junction,

– A831 from the Stuttgart-Vaihingen intersection to the Stuttgart motorway junction,

– A980 from the Allgäu intersection to the Waltenhofen intersection,

– A995 from the Sauerlach junction to the München-Süd junction,

– B31 from the Stockach-Ost junction from A98 to the Sigmarszell intersection with A96,

– B96/E251 from the Neubrandenburg beltway to Berlin.

Trucks excluded from the ban

Some trucks are excluded from Sunday and holiday bans. These are the trucks that realize:

combined freight transport (road-rail) from the sender to the nearest loading station or from the nearest unloading station to the recipient, but only at a maximum distance of 200 km,

combined freight transport (port-road) between the point of loading and unloading and a port not exceeding 150 kilometres (delivery and export),

– transport of the following goods and empty trips with them: fresh milk and fresh dairy products, fresh meat and fresh meat processing products, fresh fish, live fish and fresh fish processing products, perishable fruits and vegetables.
