On 1 June 2017 a treaty on “cross-border cooperation regarding road transport” entered into force signed by Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Since June Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourg inspectors may carry out joint inspections of trucks and buses in the Benelux countries.
The treaty called “Treaty of Liege” aims to “strengthen the fight against social dumping” in the transport sector. Although it has been arranged in October 2014, it became valid only a few days ago.”
As stated by the Luxembourg Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure: “Now inspectors can do all their tasks.”
Up until now, 8 inspections have taken in cooperation – out of 543 detained vehicles, violations were found in 218.
The signatories say that the cooperation is beneficial. According to them, it not only reduced the cost of inspections but also increased their effectiveness.
It has also been announced that other countries will probably join the treaty in the future.
