The Clean Air Zone in Bradford, which included the city centre and beyond, has been in force since 26th September. HGVs with a lower emission category than Euro6 have to pay £50 daily to enter the zone.

However, petrol vans are free to go from the Euro 4 category. Vans with a lower emission category have to pay a £9 daily charge to enter the zone.

According to a recent BBC report, the council had received £2,031,269 in payments from vehicles entering the clean air zone until the end of March. Out of this amount, the council had already paid the government £410,800 for the cost of services provided.

The report further states that the council had received an additional £2,468,218 from Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) associated with the zone and the council disclosed that since September, they had issued 58,776 PCNs.

However, the spokesperson confirmed for BBC that the revenue generated by the scheme cannot be used to fund normal council services as per the government’s mandate; it would be reinvested in further programs in the district to reduce harmful emissions.
