Autostrada del Brennero has received the silver Safe&Secure Truck Parking certification for its Rovereto Sud lorry park. The certification was awarded by Dekra, the only accredited body in Europe authorised to grant this recognition based on EU safety and service standards for truck parking areas.

“Over 54 million tonnes of goods pass through the Brenner axis every year. We are talking about the first Italian connection with the rest of Europe. It is therefore clear how important it is for the country’s economy to guarantee safe transit,” said Diego Cattoni, CEO of Autostrada del Brennero. Cattoni further emphasised the company’s commitment to continuing its efforts to improve infrastructure safety, stating, “Thanks to this initiative, the company will be the first Italian concessionaire to own three certified areas.”

Autostrada del Brennero is now focused on obtaining certification for its Trento Nord and Sadobre lorry parks, aiming for silver and bronze certifications respectively by mid-2025. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to extend the network of certified parking areas along the Brenner route.

The certification focuses on two pillars: safety and service. Safety measures include perimeter controls, monitored access points, and 24-hour user assistance. On the service side, facilities like functioning toilets, showers, 24-hour food and drink availability, free Wi-Fi, and electricity for personal use are provided.

“This is a project that the company is particularly keen on,” noted Carlo Costa, General Technical Director of Autostrada del Brennero. He described the motorway as a “large linear city” supporting around 100,000 people daily. Costa added, “Ensuring that fleets have high safety standards impacts the performance of hauliers, offers a more peaceful stopover, and consequently a more peaceful and safe journey.”

Toni Purcaro, Chairman of Dekra Italia, highlighted the importance of the neutral audit and certification process, saying, “This standard represents an important step towards improving the working conditions of drivers and ensuring that their load is safe and protected.”

Autostrada del Brennero is also coordinating the European project Pass4Core-ITA 2, which aims to further increase safety standards and extend the network of certified truck parking areas along the Brenner route.
