Certa Ireland, part of DCC plc, now offers HVO at one in five of its 49 unmanned, the company announced on Tuesday.

HVO, produced from waste plant matter, serves as a direct replacement for diesel, requiring no modifications to vehicles or engines. Certa’s rollout of HVO pumps, which began in November 2022, is part of its broader effort to make biofuels more accessible. The latest milestone was reached with the opening of the tenth HVO site at Corofin, County Clare.

Other Certa forecourts offering HVO include locations in Dublin (Liffey Valley, Dundrum, Clarehall, and Finglas), Cork (Lee Tunnel), Mayo (Ballyhaunis), Kildare (Maynooth), Meath (Trim), and Longford (Moyne).

The HVO pumps are marked with pink nozzles, distinguishing them from the traditional black diesel and green petrol options.

“Certa is leading the way in making HVO more widely available to motorists across Ireland. Our goal is to make it easy for motorists to transition to HVO as a renewable alternative to diesel, to help them lower their carbon emissions,” said Certa managing director Orla Stevens.

Stevens noted that demand for HVO has steadily increased as new sites have opened, with plans to upgrade the entire network in the coming year.
