In northern France, specifically within the river system of the Hauts-de-France region, Contargo North France initiated operations of a new container barge line. This line, which offers two round trips per week, connects the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam with the multimodal terminal in Dourges.

Additionally, the company introduced a third large vessel into its operations.

These expansions resulted in a 1.5 per cent increase in transport volume in 2023 compared to 2022, solidifying Contargo’s position as a key regional hub for barge container transports.

Notably, it remains the foremost terminal in France operated solely by a private enterprise.

Meanwhile, in Alsace, Contargo Sàrl and its predecessor CCS – Combined Container Service – marked four decades of presence in France. Since 1983, the enterprise in Alsace has been enhancing its offerings of multimodal container transports, utilizing both barge and rail connections between the Upper Rhine and the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp.

Towards the end of 2023, Contargo Süd augmented the frequency of the Basel-Westport-Shuttle to five round trips per week. This rail transport service links the inland port in Weil am Rhein with the seaports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, further bolstering Contargo’s extensive network and service capabilities in the region.
