The company announced the news via its Facebook page on Tuesday, stating that the order was something it was “very excited about”. The company added that the move towards electric good transport is a “step in the right direction”.
REMA 1000 shall receive 20 electric trucks this year, with another 10 coming in 2024.
“This means that over the coming months we can convert every sixth of our driven kilometres to electric, and that every third delivery to stores in the future will be electric trucks,” says the supermarket chain.
Once the first of the electric trucks from the order arrive, they shall be deployed in Eastern Jutland and Greater Copenhagen in collaboration with Reitan Retail and REMA 1000’s sister company Uno-X Mobility Denmark.
The move by REMA 1000 comes just a month after the company made its first electric delivery. The transport went from REMA Distribution’s distribution center in Vinterbro to REMA 1000’s branch in Åssiden.
Commenting on that first delivery, Synnøve Gautesen Berg, Director of Responsibility and Sustainability at REMA Distribusjon, said:
“Responsibility and sustainability have long been an area of focus for REMA 1000 and we have taken many significant measures to reduce our climate footprint. To do this, we must therefore look at the entire value chain, from farm to table. REMA Distribusjon has purchased several electric vehicles as part of this initiative.”
Besides electric vehicles, REMA 1000 has 9 biogas vehicles are already in operation, with a further 4 on order. The company’s main climate goal is, however, to use only fossil-free alternatives by 2026.
