The new standard trailers feature CodeXL tarpaulins and are branded in the DB Cargo FLS livery. According to the company, they will be used to expand its intermodal offering across international trade lanes, aiming to shift more freight from road to rail.
The trailers are intended to serve industries including electronics, building materials, paper, food and consumer goods — even where customers lack direct rail access.
If rail capacity is unavailable, DB Cargo FLS says the trailers can be used in flexible, road-based door-to-door solutions, maintaining continuity of service while still supporting modal shift goals.
“These trailers allow us to combine rail with the flexibility of trucks, even for customers without a siding,” said Birte Dehne, COO of DB Cargo Full Load Solutions.
Among the planned routes, Italian pasta will be shipped by rail from Italy to both Germany and Sweden using the new equipment.
No specific corridor list or environmental savings figures have yet been disclosed. Deliveries of the trailers will continue throughout the year.
