Key points at a glance:
- New dry-freight box trailer with fully opening side walls.
- Offered in EU and Nordic specifications.
- FERROPLAST body with DIN EN 12642 Code XL certification.
- ADR approval for EX/III transport operations.
- Optional double-deck and load-securing systems.
A central feature of the S.BO OPENSIDER is side access. In addition to rear loading, operators can access the load from the side, which can be relevant where yard space is limited or where on-site handling equipment makes rear access impractical.
Full-length side opening for easier access
Compared with conventional box semi-trailers, the S.BO OPENSIDER is designed to provide access along the full length of the vehicle side.
Schmitz Cargobull says this configuration is intended for operations using different loading aids, or where the layout of a delivery point makes rear loading difficult. Typical applications cited by the manufacturer include urban distribution, groupage networks and industrial transport with specialised loading processes.
According to the company, the side walls can be specified to open on one side or on both sides, depending on the operation.

Two configurations: EU and Nordic
Schmitz Cargobull is offering the trailer in two versions:
- an EU version for 4×2 tractor units with a 7,700 millimetre wheelbase,
- a Nordic version for 6×2 tractor units with an 8,130 millimetre wheelbase.
The two specifications are intended to cover both standard European operations and applications in Nordic markets.
Closed FERROPLAST body with Code XL approval
The body is based on Schmitz Cargobull’s FERROPLAST technology. The box structure meets DIN EN 12642 Code XL requirements, positioning it for standard groupage and general cargo transport.
The enclosed design is intended to protect goods from weather exposure, which is particularly relevant for sensitive dry freight.
ADR EX/III approval for specific dangerous goods operations
The new trailer also comes with ADR EX/III approval.
Under European dangerous goods rules, this means the vehicle meets requirements for certain transports involving explosive substances and articles of Class 1. Such operations typically require specific provisions for the body, electrical system and safety equipment.

Options aimed at flexible transport profiles
Schmitz Cargobull says a range of options will be available, including double-deck systems and various load-securing solutions.
By combining an enclosed box body with full side access and ADR approval, the S.BO OPENSIDER is positioned to extend the range of applications compared with conventional dry-freight box trailers, particularly in groupage, retail and industrial transport.
