SCR system manipulations using the AdBlue emulators is a real plague in Europe. The Danes decided to fight against such frauds by severe financial penalties.

German television ZDF found out about the SCR system manipulations in trucks at the beginning of this year. Since then many countries reported the same problem (e.g. Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands).

Fighting the SCR system (Selective Catalytic Reduction) manipulations the Danes prepare penalties for the use of AdBlue emulators.

According to the 40ton.net website, a carrier who uses a truck with the AdBlue emulator can be fined with up to 65 thousand Danish kroner (7000 euros). Also the driver of such a vehicle will be fined – up to 32.6 thousand Danish kroner (3500 euros).

According to the website, the above fines will be imposed on the „culprits” once again caught in the act.

It is not yet certain when and if the punishments will come into force. We will inform you on a regular basis.

Why do carriers use the AdBlue emulators?

The SCR set gives transport companies specific benefits. It allows vehicles with lower emission class to meet the Euro 4, 5 and 6 standards. This in turn allows to pay lower toll rates. Therefore, the western media complain that mainly the eastern carriers use emulators. They see the reasons for such practices in the desire to save on the toll and the AdBlue fluid.

As it turns out, the entrepreneurs use the manipulations due to the excessive operating costs and the failure rate of the SCR system. The cost of the system itself (even 9,5 thousand euros with all the sensors) and its continuous repairs is disproportionate to the savings made on the toll. Unfortunately, failures are very common.
