DHL Supply Chain is further expanding its e-commerce capabilities in the US by acquiring the US fulfilment service provider IDS Fulfillment. The company announced that the acquisition will specifically strengthen its operational presence in the United States and expand its logistics network by approximately 120,000 square meters of warehouse and distribution space.
According to DHL, the new multi-customer sites are located in “strategically advantageous” locations: Indianapolis, Indiana; Salt Lake City, Utah; Atlanta, Georgia; and at IDS’s headquarters in Plainfield, Indiana. The integration will be conducted while maintaining existing local management structures to ensure a smooth transition for customers and employees, according to the official announcement.
“E-commerce has been a strong growth driver for DHL in recent years and is a key component of our 2030 strategy,” said Patrick Kelleher, CEO of DHL Supply Chain North America.
DHL expects global annual growth of around eight per cent in online retail through 2029. This latest acquisition is the second in the US e-commerce sector within a few months. In January, DHL acquired returns specialist Inmar, positioning itself as a leading provider of returns processing services in North America.
The acquisition of IDS Fulfillment is a further step to meet the growing demand for high-performance fulfilment solutions and to further increase competitiveness in the North American market, according to the Bonn-based logistics group.
