Of the newly ordered units, 161 IVECO S-Way CNG trucks equipped with an AD190S34/P CNG box body will serve shorter distances and day trips. These lorries feature a 4×2 standard chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight of 19 tonnes, an Active Day standard cab with a low roof, and a 340 hp 9-litre Euro VI-compliant CNG engine. With four gas tanks on each side, these trucks offer a range of up to 670 km, contributing significantly to urban deliveries and customer pick-ups.
The remaining 17 IVECO S-Way CNG trucks are configured with an AS260S46Y/FS CM CNG swap body chassis for inter-hub transport. These vehicles feature a 6×2 standard chassis with a steered trailing axle, the Active Space cab, and a 460 hp 13-litre Euro VI-compliant CNG engine. Equipped with CNG tanks providing a total volume of 240 kg, these trucks offer ranges of up to 1000 km, ensuring efficient long-haul missions.
Bio-CNG, derived from sustainable renewable sources such as waste and residual materials, powers these new vehicles. By utilising Bio-CNG, DHL aims to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to diesel trucks, potentially achieving a negative carbon footprint of up to -120% if sourced from manure.
Compared to conventional internal combustion engines, the quiet operation of IVECO bioCNG-powered lorries makes them particularly suitable for urban applications and night-time deliveries, enhancing driver comfort while reducing environmental impact.
