DHL Supply Chain has won over two contracts from Eddie Stobart for the transport of goods from Tesco’s distribution centres at Goole and Doncaster.
Eddie Stobart has confirmed that DHL Supply Chain won the tender for the two aforementioned distribution centres.
However, Eddie Stobart has also told motortransport.co.uk that it will continue serving Tesco as it has renewed contracts for 4 Tesco distribution centres. Moreover, the haulage and logistics company will supply rail distribution services and primary movements to Tesco.
Tesco has confirmed that all of the aforementioned contracts were allocated to DHL and Eddie Stobart as part of a “competitive process”. The supermarket has nonetheless avoided commenting on why it chose DHL Supply Chain over Eddie Stobart for the Goole and Doncaster distribution centre contracts.
It is said that the Unite Trade Union are consulting with both DHL Supply Chain and Eddie Stobart to have the drivers from the latter move to the former so as to continue serving the same distribution centres.
Both DHL and Eddie Stobart have recently been in discussions with Unite recently over labour disputes. Industrial action saw DHL staff in Liverpool given a 3% pay rise in February, while there have been numerous strike threats made by Unite members working out of the Walker’s Crisps distribution centre in Warrington.
The news of DHL Supply chain winning over two contracts from Eddie Stobart has been welcomed on social media by some HGV drivers. A number of truckers, rightly or wrongly, accuse Stobart of underpaying its staff, and the haulage giant is often ridiculed via various memes shared online.
Some truckers have nonetheless expressed the opinion that DHL Supply Chain are not much better, citing the famous KFC debacle as evidence.
