Following multiple reports of diesel thefts, police from the Northern Spanish city of Huesca decided to implement a new surveillance campaign. The move has paid off as one group of diesel thieves has already been caught in the act.

In a statement on its website, the Huesca Local Police department said that it had arrested three persons in connection with stealing fuel from a truck parked at a rest area on Av. del Dr. Artero.

The arrests were made thanks to a new special surveillance campaign that had been launched following numerous recent reports of diesel thefts.

Huesca police say that the arrests came after officers confronted a person behaving suspiciously next to a truck.

That led to the discovery of two other accomplices inside a vehicle that had four 25-litre capacity cans full of fuel, plus an empty one. In addition to this, a tube typically used for fuel theft was found in the vehicle.

Officers also found that a truck nearby had signs that its fuel cap had been forced off. The vehicle was suspiciously short on fuel too.

The 3 persons were taken into custody and will now face judicial proceedings.
