DPD UK has announced a strategic partnership with YEEP! to install 8,000 new parcel lockers across the country over the next five years. The move significantly expands the company’s out-of-home (OOH) delivery infrastructure and reflects a growing trend towards more flexible last-mile solutions.

The new lockers, which are battery-powered and designed to be open network, will complement DPD’s existing network of 12,000 Pickup parcel shops and lockers. According to DPD, the initiative aims to improve accessibility and convenience for consumers looking to collect or return parcels within their local communities.

DPD UK’s parent company, Geopost, is a key partner of kernTerminal—the technology provider behind YEEP!’s locker system. The lockers are described as “agnostic,” allowing integration into broader parcel delivery ecosystems beyond a single carrier model.

The company says the expansion supports its strategy of offering consumers a choice between home delivery and OOH options. DPD currently operates more than 10,000 vehicles in the UK and delivers over 360 million parcels per year. The company is also investing in sustainable operations, with 35% of its van fleet now electric and 95% of its HGV fleet powered by biofuel.

Elaine Kerr, CEO of DPD UK, said:

“We are committed to investing in technology that helps consumers control how they receive, send and return parcels. By rolling out 8,000 additional lockers, we are creating more accessible, efficient, and convenient solutions.”

The announcement comes amid growing interest in parcel lockers across Europe. Geopost’s 2024 E-shopper Barometer found that 23% of regular e-shoppers in Europe use lockers, compared to only 12% in the UK. DPD anticipates this figure will rise over the coming years as consumers become more familiar with alternative delivery options.

Commenting on the partnership, Noel Shampton, CEO of YEEP!, said:

“Our innovative, battery-powered lockers are designed to provide unparalleled convenience and efficiency for consumers and businesses alike. This partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing the out-of-home delivery landscape in the UK.”
