EU Transport Ministers came to a agreement on amendment to Eurovignette Directive regarding increasing taxes for trucks emitting more pollution nad noise. The decision is meant to promote ecological transport and tackle congestion problem. In the light of the above the owners of trucks will pay higher taxes.
As president of IRU Goods Transport Liaison Committee, Alexander Sakkers commented, it cannot be accepted to burden merely one sector of transport though it represents only 10% of all road users. He further claims that in his opinion the decision is good neither for the economy nor for the environment. The amendment seems to impose extra charging on the sector, which already paid all taxes, charges and duties.
