This initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of their operations by replacing traditional diesel with HVO-100 fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) on specific routes. The transition aligns with stricter emission reduction targets set by the EU and UK, aiming for a 42% decrease by 2030 compared to 2005 levels.

Initially, the collaboration will involve two daily trailer loads, five days a week, running exclusively on HVO-100 fuel on the Eindhoven (Netherlands) to Hinckley (UK) route, replacing 30,000 kilometres of diesel usage annually.

HVO-100 fuel offers significant environmental benefits, including up to a 90% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, 84% reduction in particulate matter emissions, and 27% reduction in nitrous oxide emissions compared to traditional diesel. It is a biodegradable, non-toxic alternative derived from 100% raw materials.

“Currently, our Netherlands to UK operation completes more than 176,000 km per year. I predict that by the end of Q2 2024, 50 per cent of all linehauls out of DPD Netherlands will be running on HVO fuel. I am happy that Europa Road will be operating two full loads a day from the Netherlands to the UK, which represents 1,300 KM a day, 350,00KM per year on HVO fuel,” said Maurice Loef, Linehaul Director at DPD Netherlands.
