The line, which began operations in September 2024, was celebrated at an event held at the Port of Sheerness on 10 June 2025. It is operated using Finnlines’ Finneco-class hybrid vessels, each offering 5,800 lane metres of cargo space—equivalent to around 400 trailers.

The vessels are equipped with battery banks, solar panels and air lubrication systems aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.

The new service enables direct UK access to Grimaldi’s wider international network, offering connections to the Far East, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, West Africa, South America and the U.S. East Coast.

According to Finnlines Commercial Director Merja Kallio-Mannila, the service “marks a major milestone in our 70 years of UK operations,” adding that the vessels are designed for the efficient transport of a wide range of cargo, including oversized freight.

The service will operate via Peel Ports Group’s recently completed £30 million RoRo berth at London Medway, which is intended to improve capacity and speed of operations at the port.

Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, provides regular freight links between Finland, Poland, Belgium, Spain and Ireland, with integrated access to a wider global logistics network.
