France introduces extra lorry bans for upcoming Olympics

The sporting events soon to take place in France have led the authorities there to introduce additional restrictions on truck traffic.

According to information made available by the French government road service Bison Futé, trucks over 7.5t will be banned on all roads on certain Saturdays during the summer.

The restriction will be in place from 7am to 7pm:

  • on Saturdays 20 and 27 July
  • on Saturdays 3, 10 and 17 August

In addition, vehicles over 7.5t will be banned from 7am to 7pm on Saturday 6 July:

  • in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Grand-Est regions, except on the A6 and A31 motorways in a north-south direction
  • in the Hauts-de-France region, except the A1 and A16 motorways in a north-south direction

Additionally, on Saturday 24 August 2024, from 7am to 7pm, vehicles over 7.5t will be restricted:

  • in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Grand-Est regions, except on the A6 and A31 motorways in a south-to-north direction
  • in the Hauts-de-France region, except on the A1 and A16 motorways in a south-north direction
