The first holiday-related truck traffic ban falls on the very first day of the month. Below is a calendar of holiday traffic bans in various European countries:
1 August
Switzerland – from 00:00 to 24:00. This is Swiss National Day. The ban applies to trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 3.5 tonnes.
4 August
Croatia – from 15:00 to 23:00. The ban applies to trucks and combinations with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes, as well as vehicles with trailers exceeding 14 metres in length.
5 August
Croatia – from 14:00 to 23:00. Croatians celebrate Thanksgiving Day on this date.
14 August
Croatia – from 15:00 to 23:00.
France – from 22:00 to 24:00. The ban applies to trucks and vehicle combinations with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes.
Luxembourg – from 21:30 to 24:00 towards France, and from 23:30 to 24:00 towards Germany. The ban applies to vehicles with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes, with or without a trailer.
Poland – from 18:00 to 22:00. Vehicles and vehicle combinations with a GVW exceeding 12 tonnes are prohibited from using the roads.
15 August
Austria – from 00:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to tractors with trailers where either the tractor or trailer exceeds a GVW of 3.5 tonnes, as well as to trucks and articulated vehicles with a GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
Croatia – from 14:00 to 23:00.
France – from 00:00 to 22:00.

Italy – from 07:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles and combinations used for freight transport with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes.
Luxembourg – from 00:00 to 21:45.
Poland – from 08:00 to 22:00.
Slovenia – from 08:00 to 22:00. The restriction applies to heavy goods vehicles and vehicle combinations with a GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
19 August
Hungary – from 22:00 to 24:00. The restriction applies to trucks with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes.
20 August
Hungary – from 00:00 to 22:00. This day is celebrated in Hungary as St Stephen’s Day.
29 August
Slovakia – from 00:00 to 22:00. This marks the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising.
Summer traffic bans
Please note that the above list covers holiday-specific traffic bans only. In addition to these, many European countries enforce regular weekend, night-time, and summer restrictions. Summer bans are currently in force in countries such as Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Poland.
