Rhineland-Palatinate is launching a pilot project that allows drivers to check the occupancy rate at 20 parking lots on the A61 motorway online.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Mobility Authority (Landesbetrieb Mobilität) announces the launch of a pilot project in the state that will allow optimal and efficient use of all the truck parking spaces on the A61 motorway between North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.
Drivers can check on a map on the authority’s website where out of 20 parking lots along this route they will find space for their truck. A total of 1,060 truck parking spaces are monitored, which accounts for 25% of the available spaces in the state.
To implement the project, the authority installed about 50 devices in 19 rest areas – consisting of video detectors, laser scanners and webcams. The 20th rest area – Brohltal-Ost has been monitored before.
Each rest area available in the system provides the following information:
– name of the parking lot,
– time,
– number of available truck parking spaces (Freie Parkplätze),
– total number of truck parking spaces (LKW-Parkplätze insgesamt), and
– occupancy rate (Beschafenheit).
