In the city of Saarlouis in the German state of Saarland, the police stopped a van carrying… a palm tree.

A police patrol in Saarlouis spotted a vehicle with an unusual load during routine operations. A trunk and crown of a large palm tree protruded from the sliding roof of a moving Peugeot Partner. Officers stopped the vehicle for inspection, suspecting that due to the height of the palm tree and road safety, it should not be transported in this way. During the inspection it turned out that the permitted height of the vehicle of 4.20 metres was significantly exceeded, and since the 55-year-old driver was not able to present a special permit – he could not continue his journey, explains the Saarlouis police in a press release.

For further transport of the plant, the German used a delivery truck in which the palm tree was transported in a horizontal position. An infringement procedure was initiated against the 55-year-old driver.
