The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) has published the latest figures for heavy goods traffic on toll roads in Germany. After a 3.5 percent increase in January (year-on-year), total heavy goods traffic with vehicles over 3.5 t on toll roads in February fell by 2.5 percent year-on-year.
It should be noted, however, that the German toll statistics for the first half of 2024 did not include vehicles weighing over 3.5 t to 7.5 t. This group of trucks was only subject to tolls from 1 July 2024.
In the second month of this year, trucks over 3.5 t drove 3.246 billion km on German toll roads, of which 1.83 billion km were driven by German trucks (56.4% of the total mileage), which is 1.4% less than in February 2024.
Trucks registered in Poland recorded a 2.5% year-on-year decrease, covering 621.2 million km in February (19.14% of total mileage). Lithuania recorded the third-highest truck mileage after Germany, and saw a decrease for the third month in a row. The 115.6 million km recorded was 2.5% lower than in February last year.
Truck traffic with GVW from 7.5 t
In the case of truck traffic from 7.5 t, the decline was more severe. With a total mileage of around 3.15 billion km, the result was 4.9% lower year-on-year, with German trucks recording a result 5.6% worse than a year ago.
Vehicles registered in Poland drove 608 million km on toll roads in Germany, which is 4.4% worse than in February 2024.
Trucks from Lithuania also recorded a 3.1% decrease, covering 114.8 million km.
In terms of the cumulative result for the first two months of this year, the mileage declines (year-on-year) for these three countries were as follows:
- Germany by 2.3 percent (with a total mileage of 3.54 billion km),
- Poland by 3.2 percent (with a total mileage of 1.255 billion km),
- Lithuania by 2.1 percent (with a total mileage of approximately 0.24 billion km).
