Germany: Traffic restrictions for trucks during the holiday season

The German Ministry of transport and infrastructure reports that during the holiday season traffic restrictions are in force for heavy goods vehicles in Germany.

During the holiday season drivers of heavy goods vehicles with GVW of over 7.5 tonnes as well as drivers of vehicle combinations will have to be patient.

The restrictions that apply to them will be in force every Saturday between 1 July and 31 August, from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on the following sections of motorways and federal roads:

  • A1 from the Köln-West junction,  through the Leverkusen-West junction, Wuppertal, Kamener Kreuz, Münster to Lohne/Dinklage entry
  • A2 from the Oberhausen junction to the Bad Oeynhausen junction
  • A3 from the Oberhausen junction to the Köln-Ost junction and from the Mönchhof Dreieck through Frankfurter Kreuz to the Nürnberg junction.
  • A5 from Darmstädter Kreuz to the Karlsruhe-Süd entry and from the entry of Offenburg to the Neuenburg junction.
  • A6 from the Schwetzingen-Hockenheim entry to the Nürnberg-Süd junction.
  • A7 from the Schleswig/Jagel entry to the Hamburg-Schnelsen-Nord entry, from the Soltau-Süd entry to the Göttingen-Nord entry and from the Schweinfurt/Werneck junction by though the Biebelried, Ulm/Elchingen and Allgäu junctions to the end of the motorway and the country border in Füssen
  • A8 from the Karlsruhe junction to the München-Obermenzing  entry and from the München-Ramersdorf entry to the Bad Reichenhall entry.
  • A9/E51 from Berliner Ring (Leipzig forking/Potsdam junction) to the München-Schwabing entry
  • A10 Berliner Ring, excluding the section between the Berlin-Spandau entry through the Havelland junction to the Oranienburg junction and the section between the Spreeau junction and the Werder junction
  • A45 from the Dortmund-Süd entry through Westhofener Kreuz and Gambacher Kreuz to Seligenstädter Dreieck
  • A61 from the Meckenheim junction thorugh the Koblenz junction to the Hockenheim junction
  • A81 from the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen entry to the Gärtringen entry
  • A92 from the Munich-Feldmoching junction to the Oberschleißheim entry and from the Neufahrn junction to the Erding entry
  • A93 from the Inntal junction to the Reischenhart entry
  • A99 from the München Süd-West junction through the München-West, München-Allach, München-Feldmoching, München-Nord, München-Ost, München-Süd and München/Eschenried junctions
  • A215 from the Bordesholm junction to the Blumenthal entry
  • A980 from the Allgäu junction to the Waltenhofen entry
  • A831 from the Stuttgart-Vaihingen entry to the Stuttgart junction
  • A995 from the Sauerlach entry to the München-Süd junction
  • B31 from the Stockach-Ost entry from A 98 to the Sigmarszell entry from A 96
  • B96/E251 Neubrandenburger Ring to Berlin

The restrictions do not apply to:

  • combined freight transport in the rail-road system from the sender to the nearest transshipment terminal or from the nearest terminal to the recipient
  • combined freight transport (road-airport) between the place of loading and the airport, which is located not further than within 150 km

Transport of:

  • fresh milk or fresh dairy products
  • fresh meat or fresh meat products
  • fresh fish, live fish and fresh fish products
  • perishable fruits and vegetables
  • empty journeys associated with the above transport.
  • In all the above-mentioned cases the driver must have the documents related to the cargo and transport.

Granting special permit

Special permits are granted by regional Traffic Offices in justified cases. For heavy goods vehicles entering Germany the competent authority is the Road Authority located in the district where the driver crossed the border.
