Compared with the peak summer months, September is considerably quieter. Even so, operators should review the restriction calendar before planning a route, particularly when travelling through countries with Sunday, public holiday or selected Saturday bans. The key public holiday-related restrictions for September are listed below.
8 September – Liechtenstein
Tuesday, 8 September is the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Liechtenstein.
A 24-hour ban on heavy goods vehicles applies throughout the day.
The restriction covers heavy goods vehicles subject to Liechtenstein’s Sunday and public holiday traffic ban system.
28 September – Czechia
On 28 September, Czechia observes Statehood Day.
The restriction applies from 13:00 to 22:00.
It applies to trucks and vehicle combinations with a permissible gross weight above 7.5 tonnes travelling on motorways and first-class roads.
September restrictions go beyond public holidays
In addition to holiday-related bans in individual countries, regular weekend restrictions continue to apply. This is particularly relevant in countries where trucks face restrictions on Saturdays and Sundays. In September 2026, the affected weekends are 5–6 September, 12–13 September, 19–20 September and 26–27 September.
Carriers should also check whether summer measures continue into the first weeks of September. Bulgaria is one example: its seasonal truck bans remain in place until 15 September. They affect vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes using selected routes on Fridays and Sundays.
