In October, additional driving restrictions for trucks will apply across Europe as countries observe public and religious holidays. Carriers should expect disruption in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and several other key transit markets.

In addition to regular weekend and overnight bans, operators will need to account for additional restrictions linked to the October 2026 holiday calendar. Some apply across entire national road networks, while others affect only specific routes, directions or motorway sections.

The most significant restrictions will affect routes through Austria and northern Italy, as well as Germany, where public holidays can vary by federal state. The schedule below covers holiday-related restrictions only. Standard Saturday, Sunday and night-time bans must be checked separately when planning a trip.

2 October (Friday)

  • Austria – from 07:00 to 22:00. Additional restrictions will apply on designated motorway sections around the Brenner crossing, including the A12 and A13. Depending on the route, the ban covers trucks and vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
  • Italy – from 07:00 to 22:00. The ban covers trucks exceeding 7.5 tonnes on the A22 between Vipiteno (Sterzing) and the Austrian border at the Brenner Pass.
  • Luxembourg – from 23:30 to 00:00. The restriction applies to vehicles and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes travelling towards Germany.

3 October (Saturday — German Unity Day)

  • Germany – from 00:00 to 22:00. A nationwide driving ban will cover trucks exceeding 7.5 tonnes and all trucks towing trailers, regardless of the trailer’s weight.
  • Austria – from 00:00 to 15:00 on the A12 Inntal and A13 Brenner motorways when the final destination is Germany or a country reached via Germany. The restriction applies to vehicles and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes. Austria’s regular Saturday ban begins at 15:00, so restrictions on truck movements will continue thereafter.
  • Luxembourg – from 00:00 to 21:45 on roads leading towards Germany. The regular Saturday restrictions must also be taken into account.

22 October (Thursday)

  • Hungary – from 22:00 to 00:00. The restriction begins ahead of the country’s public holiday and applies to trucks and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

23 October (Friday — public holiday in Hungary)

  • Hungary – from 00:00 to 22:00. The ban covers trucks and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes, subject to the exemptions provided by law.

26 October (Monday — Austrian National Day)

  • Austria – from 00:00 to 22:00. The public holiday ban applies to trucks and combinations covered by Austria’s restrictions.
  • Italy – from 00:00 to 22:00. An additional ban will apply to trucks exceeding 7.5 tonnes on the A22 between Vipiteno (Sterzing) and the Austrian border at the Brenner.

28 October (Wednesday — Day of the Establishment of the Independent Czechoslovak State)

  • Czech Republic – from 13:00 to 22:00. The restriction covers trucks and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes on motorways and first-class roads.

31 October (Saturday — Reformation Day and the eve of All Saints’ Day)

In 2026, 31 October falls on a Saturday. Regular weekend restrictions will therefore coincide with additional bans linked to Reformation Day in Germany and All Saints’ Day, which falls on the following day.

  • Croatia – from 15:00 to 23:00. The ban applies on restricted roads to vehicles and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes, as well as trucks and combinations longer than 14 metres.
  • France – from 22:00 to 00:00. The ban ahead of Sunday and All Saints’ Day covers trucks exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
  • Luxembourg – from 21:30 to 00:00 on roads leading towards France, and from 23:30 to 00:00 in the direction of Germany.
  • Germany – from 00:00 to 22:00 in the federal states that observe Reformation Day, including Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. The ban covers trucks exceeding 7.5 tonnes and trucks towing trailers.
  • Poland – from 18:00 to 22:00. The restriction applies to vehicles and vehicle combinations exceeding 12 tonnes.
  • Slovenia – from 08:00 to 22:00. The ban covers trucks and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Regular weekend bans may also apply in Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and other countries on this date.

Restrictions continue on 1 November

All Saints’ Day falls on a Sunday in 2026. In many countries, the holiday restrictions will therefore overlap with the usual Sunday bans.

Further restrictions will apply in Germany, where All Saints’ Day is observed in selected federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Carriers should also check restrictions in Austria, Croatia, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary and Italy.
