Hapag-Lloyd has partnered with HERE Technologies to equip over 1.5 million containers with advanced tracking devices, aimed at improving real-time visibility and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) predictions across global supply chains. The collaboration integrates HERE Tracking into Hapag-Lloyd’s existing smart container solution, Live Position, bringing AI-powered ETAs for inland transportation across rail, barge, and truck networks.
The move comes as supply chain disruptions challenge industries worldwide, highlighting the demand for accurate tracking data. By using HERE’s AI-powered predictions, Hapag-Lloyd will be able to offer customers more accurate arrival times for shipments, optimise operational planning and improve overall customer satisfaction.
Currently, 90% of Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet is equipped with these tracking devices, with full fleet deployment and predictive ETA capabilities planned for early next year. The integration of HERE’s API-based tracking solution enables real-time monitoring, customizable geofencing, and event-based notifications, providing operations managers with a comprehensive view of container locations.
Jason Jameson, Chief Customer Officer at HERE Technologies, noted the significance of the partnership:
“We are excited to redefine the future of supply chain visibility together with Hapag-Lloyd and to provide their customers with the precise ETAs they need to stay competitive in a constantly evolving marketplace.”
Hapag-Lloyd’s Patrick Briest, Head of Network & Operations IT Products, added:
“While we already know where each container is at any moment, our collaboration with HERE allows us to predict where it will be across any transport mode, in any country. This capability significantly boosts our operational planning and supports our customers with unparalleled precision in shipment timing.”
