According to a police notice, on Friday July 28th, officers received calls about a lorry carrying a dangerously damaged trailer on the A61 in the direction of Speyer.
The vehicle was then pulled over by officials from the Ruchheim motorway police at the Dannstadt-West service station.
Inspectors learned that the trailer’s roof was only connected to the semi-trailer body via the front wall and rear doors. The 44-year-old driver of the vehicle had attempted to use tension belts to keep the trailer intact, but this did little to appease officers.
In addition, significant defects were found concerning the vehicle’s tyres, loading area and frame structure.
The trailer was unsurprisingly ordered off the road, with further travel prohibited. In the end, it was taken by a specialised towing service to be scrapped.
The driver of the truck is subject to a preliminary investigation for placing an unsafe vehicle on the road, say the police.
