The police were alerted about the van, which was transiting from Sweden to France, by concerned motorists.

During the police check, it became apparent that the van had clearly exceeded the permissible total weight of 3,500 kg.

It was weighed at 5,600 kg, making it over 2,000 kg overloaded. The overloading is believed to have caused the damage that left the vehicle in an extremely inclined position.

The 19-year-old driver and his employer will each have to pay a fine of €495 for overloading.

In addition, the driver was unable to provide the officials with any time records. The delivery firm was therefore fined another €1,050. The van was also immobilised and banned from the road until all the defects were rectified.
