Nikola Motor Company will soon enter the European market. The company decided to take this step because of the huge interest in its vehicles on the Old Continent. As a result, the manufacturer created a hydrogen-electric truck, Nikola Tre. The first test models will hit the road in two years.
The new vehicle is the successor to Nikola One and Nikola Two, which are intended for the US market. That is why the name of the new truck is not accidental. „Tre” in Norwegian means three, and in Norway, the first tests of this model are to be carried out in two years. It is worth noting that in the USA and in Europe there are different regulations and requirements for the specification of vehicles, therefore the manufacturer, wanting to enter the European market, had to create a completely new truck.
Nikola Tre is a hydrogen-electric truck that is supposed to be twice as fast as traditional diesel vehicles. The truck will be adapted to European standards in terms of size and length required. The maximum power that Tre achieves is 1000 HP while depending on the model, the vehicle will be able to cover a distance of 500 to 1200 km. Full charge of the empty tank will take only take 20 minutes. In turn, the driver will find a digital cockpit controlled by a 21-inch touchscreen.
The official premiere of Nikola Tre is scheduled for April 16, 2019 at Nikola World 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona. Tthat’s when the more detailed specification of the truck will be presented to the public. Mass production will start at the turn of 2022 and 2023.
Tre production in Europe
In addition to presenting the new model, the company confirmed that it plans to start production of trucks in Europe. Thanks to this, Nikola Tre can be sold also on other markets. The company is about to bring a truck to Australia and Asia. The producer is currently at the stage of pre-planning and selecting the right location for its European production plant.
