An Italian truck driver who joined a convoy of vehicles celebrating Italy’s Euro 2020 final win has been fined €100 for breaking the HGV ban in the city centre of Brescello.

The incident occurred just an hour or so after the match, according to Italian newspaper Il Resto Del Carlino.

It is said the trucker joined a convoy of cars and motorcycles bound for the city centre to celebrate the Azzurri’s triumph at Wembley stadium. However, once he honked his horn as the truck passed into the area of the old town banned to HGVs, the local police chose not to turn a blind eye.

The officers, who were reportedly moments away from clocking off, immediately intervened to avoid the possible risks of an accident, which they considered to be high given the considerable influx of people in the square and in the town centre.

The celebrations of the fans naturally continued, but unfortunately for the lorry driver, he was not let off lightly and had to fork out a €100 fine.
