Italy is extending its border controls with Slovenia for a further six months. The measures, which were due to end on June 19, have now been extended until December 18 this year.
The Italian government justifies the decision with concerns including the ongoing threat of terrorist infiltration via migration flows along the Western Balkans route, the high level of illegal migration, and increased security risks linked to the Catholic Church’s Universal Jubilee.
Spain to introduce controls
Spain has decided to temporarily reintroduce border controls at its land frontiers with France and Portugal in connection with the 4th United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in Seville from 30 June to 3 July.
In addition, checks will be carried out at internal air borders in Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Bilbao, Girona, Granada, Madrid, Malaga, Murcia, Seville and Valencia, as well as at internal maritime borders in Barcelona, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca.
These inspections will take place from 27 June to 5 July this year.
