26.07.2020

The motorway bridge in Genoa, Italy, which collapsed in August 2018, was rebuilt. Even the tough pandemic period has not interrupted construction. Watch how the static testing of the bridge was carried out last weekend!

This was the first time heavy trucks rolled over the huge structure. The tests started last weekend, in which over 50 trucks with a total weight of 2,500 tons took part, and it lasted several days.

The testing included both slow convoy journeys and a brake test, during which some vehicles were braking at the same time to see whether the bridge can withstand large weights horizontally.

Due to the highest priority, the construction of the Morandi Bridge designed by Renzo Piano was not interrupted by a flood in 2019 or by the Corona pandemic.

The tragedy occurred in Genoa in August 2018. The highway bridge collapsed on a section about 200 meters long. As a result, 43 people died.
