The incident took place in the Tresignana area, near Bologna, in northern Italy. Officers stopped a truck with a semi-trailer belonging to a transport company based in Campania. The vehicle was driven by a resident of Naples who was transporting fruit and vegetables.
During the initial inspection, no irregularities were found – the driver card was inserted in the device and the driving data was being recorded correctly. However, the police decided to examine the digital tachograph data from the past 56 days in more detail. It was then discovered that the driver had repeatedly driven without a card in the tachograph.
In total, over the period covered by the inspection, the driver drove as much as 13,554 kilometres without recording his working time. This means he spent an additional 237 hours behind the wheel without any record, averaging around 242 km per day without a card inserted in the tachograph.
“Due to the serious infringements found, the owner of the vehicle – who, among other things, failed to carry out the legally required tachograph data download every 90 days – was fined a total of approximately 35 thousand euros,” reports local news portal ferraratoday.it.
