IVECO has tested a new V2X safety system that shares hazard data between vehicles and infrastructure. The technology is designed to help drivers detect dangers outside their direct line of sight.
V2X is a technology that allows vehicles to share real-time data with other vehicles, road infrastructure and vulnerable road users, helping drivers detect hazards that sensors alone cannot see.
IVECO has completed trials of its V2X-based safety software, developed together with Accenture under the EU-funded MOST programme. The system uses on-board sensors and algorithms to recognise vulnerable road users and other objects around the vehicle. These observations are converted into Collective Perception Messages (CPMs), which are exchanged with nearby connected vehicles, traffic lights and roadside sensors.
By combining information from multiple sources, the system can identify hazards that fall outside the driver’s or vehicle’s field of view. The trials were carried out using the eDaily light commercial vehicle and IVECO’s connected telematics platform.
According to the project partners, the results could support the wider deployment of cooperative mobility systems currently being explored in EU research programmes.
