The 130,000 square metre logistics hub dedicated to adidas will serve 19 countries across Southern and Eastern Europe. Equipped with advanced digital systems, the centre will streamline logistics management by using over 700 robots and automation technologies. These systems are designed to improve efficiency in inventory tracking and product distribution, allowing the centre to process up to 500,000 shipments daily.

The facility features 20 kilometres of conveyor belts and a shuttle system with 25 storage lanes, providing a total storage capacity of 440,000 units.

“The opening of the adidas logistics hub represents the largest and most innovative implementation in our company to date. It is the blueprint for the next generation of omnichannel distribution centres, combining next-level digitalisation and sustainable solutions,” said Kuehne+Nagel CEO Stefan Paul.

The facility also includes significant sustainability measures. It is LEED Gold certified and operates entirely on renewable energy. The site uses an LED lighting system equipped with daylight and motion sensors, and a photovoltaic system capable of generating 13,555 MWh annually. Additionally, the centre employs sustainable packaging materials and minimises plastic use, contributing to the company’s goals of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The new hub is expected to create more than 700 jobs, with a particular focus on roles requiring technical and digital skills.

Real-time monitoring and predictive algorithms are integrated into the logistics operations, helping to optimise resources and reduce delivery times by anticipating high-demand periods.

Mantova was selected for the project due to its strategic location. This infrastructure will assist in reducing operating costs and CO2 emissions by facilitating better integration with last-mile suppliers. The selection of Mantova has also garnered strong support from the local community.

The official opening ceremony took place today, attended by senior representatives from Kuehne+Nagel and adidas, as well as Italian government officials, including Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Regional Councillor Alessandro Beduschi, and the Mayor of Mantova, Mattia Palazzi.
