Kuehne+Nagel has announced its acquisition of a 51% stake in IMC Logistics (IMC), a US-based marine drayage and intermodal transportation provider. This acquisition marks Kuehne+Nagel’s strategic move to strengthen its logistics capabilities in North America, with IMC’s established operations providing enhanced access to key logistics hubs across the region.

Founded over 40 years ago, IMC is headquartered in Collierville, Tennessee, and operates a network of 49 locations strategically located at major US seaports and rail hubs. The company manages approximately 2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually and generated around USD 800 million in revenue in 2023. IMC’s workforce comprises 1,700 employees and an extensive network of independent contractors, solidifying its position in the US intermodal logistics sector.

Kuehne+Nagel, which has collaborated with IMC in the past, will retain the IMC brand as part of the acquisition. The transaction, which is expected to conclude at the beginning of the first quarter of 2025, is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.

In statements accompanying the announcement, Dr. Joerg Wolle, Chairman of Kuehne+Nagel International AG, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, saying,

“Acquiring a majority stake in IMC represents another important strategic step. We are further expanding our leading position in North America for the benefit of our customers and closer cooperation with our partners, particularly the carriers.”

Further financial specifics of the deal were not disclosed.
