Today’s headline story: Swiss Post agrees pay deal with union

Swiss Post, PostFinance, the trade union syndicom, and the staff association transfair, have all agreed on salary measures averaging 2.5% for 2023.

Swiss Post says the salary increases will benefit employees with low and middle incomes the most, since they are particularly affected by the increased cost of living.

In addition, the postal operator states its minimum salary will rise to over 4,000 Swiss francs per month.

In total, almost 30,000 Swiss Post and PostFinance employees will benefit from the outcome of the negotiations in the collective employment contract. The increased salaries will apply from this April.

Customer-to-Customer (C2C) marketplaces have been gaining popularity in recent years, and there are signs that they may be the future for retail sales. A study by McKinsey & Company has revealed that Gen Z-ers are expected to be the ones who will most actively adopt C2C marketplaces.

One of the keys to scaling C2C is to look at last-mile logistics. Out-of-home deliveries are becoming increasingly common, and according to a study by Pitney Bowes, 48% of respondents would prefer to use them over home delivery or pickup options.

There is a huge demand for lockers in Europe, specifically in Poland, the Nordics, and France, where adoption is growing rapidly.

We can also observe a new disruptive approach by Vinted, which has created a new category and it has been successful. Other companies are slowly entering the race, and the adoption of C2C marketplaces is expected to grow for three simple reasons: ease of use, no need for human interaction, and cost savings while increasing margin/revenue.

However, there is a significant increase in companies adopting lockers and keeping them locked for their packages. We have carrier locker networks, retailer locker networks, and now emerging C2C second-hand networks, all non-agnostic. The risk is future regulations, and one option would be opening them up and making them agnostic.

As the C2C marketplace continues to evolve, it is crucial for businesses to stay informed and adapt their strategies accordingly to take advantage of this growing market.
