A lorry driver who passed out while driving on Tuesday crashed into a restaurant in the German town of Karslfeld. The total damage caused by the accident was around €83,000 euros; fortunately nobody was seriously injured.

The local fire and rescue service reported about the accident, which occured when a 41-year-old waste lorry driver passed out at the wheel.

He is thought to have stepped on the accelerator pedal when he lost consciousness, because the vehicle turned left off the lane, crossed a centre island onto the opposite lane before falling into the green verge next to it.

The waste lorry eventually came to rest after crashing into the facade of an Asian restaurant. However, on its way there, it tore a traffic sign post from its place and damaged several trees, one of which even fell over.

The front of the building was also badly damaged.

The driver was slightly injured and was taken to the hospital. He had a 35-year-old co-driver who was also slightly injured by the splinters and was taken care of on the spot. Luckily, he didn’t need any hospital treatment, reports the fire service.

The vehicle had to be towed away and the estimated total damage is approx 83,000 euros.
