The speed limit on motorways in the Netherlands will be lowered in 2020. According to the announcement of Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the maximum speed on highways will be reduced to 100 km / h. The new limit will enter into force at 6.00 on March 16, 2020.

Currently, you can drive 120 or even 130 km / h on Dutch motorways. From March, you can drive that fast only at night.

The Dutch government is assuming the lower limit increases safety and reduces fuel consumption, thereby reduces emissions of noxious nitrogen oxides (NoX) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

However, the speed limit for heavy goods vehicles, which will still be able to drive on Dutch motorways with a maximum of 80 km / h will not change.
