Road transport companies have been reminded that new Vehicle Excise Duty rates are set to come in at the start of next month.

The new rates were announced by Rishi Sunak MP, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, during this month’s Budget.

As the RHA has reminded its members, the changes are as follows:

• an increase in VED rates for cars, vans and motorcycles in line with the retail price index (RPI) for vehicle licences taken out from 1 April 2021,
• a freeze on the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) VED rates from 1 April 2021
• a 12-month extension to the HGV Levy suspension from 1 August 2021.

The updated Rates of Vehicle Tax, effective April 2021, are available here.
