The new regulation on winter tyres for trucks and buses will apply from next year.

Freight forwarders, bus operators and fleet operators should be aware of a significant change in German legislation. The new winter tyre regulation will enter into force on 1 July 2020. According to this, heavy goods vehicles will have to have winter tyres not only on the wheels on the drive axle, but also on the steering axles.

The new requirement will apply to trucks of categories N2 and N3 (with GVW over 3.5 t ). A winter tyre with a mountain and snowflake symbol is considered to be a winter tyre.

Fleets that buy new tyres for the upcoming winter season should, therefore, take into account the fact that in Germany next year winter tires will also be compulsory for steering axles – DEKRA recommends.
